Airline & manufacturer issue images and old images
I recently received an email asking if it was fine to upload posting images other than those taken by the photographer. The person asked "I have many slides with no photo credit on them; can I put them on this site? What about old airline and manufacturer issued images?"
The view of the webmaster is that airline and aircraft manufacturer PR shots are fine as they were released to individuals and media outlets with the specific purpose to be shared as much as possible. So as long as the images meet the website quality requirements, they can be uploaded to the website. Should a manufacturer or airline take exception to their specific PR promo image being posted to the site, we will of course deal with such objections if and when they arise. For recent years images (1980s to date) taken by photographers other than the person uploading, they should not be uploaded to the site. But for images from the 1950s and 1960s this is not such an issue as in many cases the original photographer is either deceased or unknown. If the photographer from the 50s or 60s is still alive and known, the images should not be listed (without the photographer's approval). Henry Tenby, webmaster www.AirlineFan.com
